Case study: Kokomo

How we reached Vancouver foodies through TikTok and Instagram Reels

 

The Challenge

Kokomo, a staple in Vancouver’s vegan food scene, was having trouble with posting consistently. They wanted to drive brand awareness among Vancouver foodies and create content targeted towards their muse - the sustainability-focused hip Vancouverite who wants more plant-based options in their life. 

Kokomo wanted us to grow their TikTok by producing locally-geared content to help get more foodies through their doors to try their delicious bowls and smoothies. They wanted to show off a greater diversity of people and voices on their page, as well as increase outbound engagement to put their restaurants on the radar of prominent Vancouver foodies and influencers. 

The Solution

We worked closely with Kokomo’s founder Katie to build out a 3 month strategy to boost their TikTok and Reels performance. We created a content calendar and posting cadence for them that would grow their audience quickly.

We explored new creative angles like humorous local content for TikTok that would relate and reach Vancouver locals and make them aware of Kokomo and shareable meme content for Instagram. As UGC creators ourselves in Kokomo’s target audience (young females living in Vancouver), we were able to tap into local trends and build genuine connections with Kokomo’s audience. This kept their content fresh and light, something we hadn’t seen previously on their page.

Lastly, we collaborated with a diverse range of UGC creators to create content that stayed true to Kokomo’s values. Top-performing TikTok and Reels content was shared to Instagram Stories with Story links and a link in bio to drive traffic to their website and encourage a higher volume of online orders. We also updated their bio link with a landing page tool that allowed customers to order directly in order to reduce friction and maximize the amount of orders they were getting.

The Results

Within the first 3 weeks of posting TikTok content for Kokomo, we had two videos go viral, one hitting 163K views and one hitting 16K views. This resulted in Kokomo’s following growing from 700 to 1200 within only a few days and earned them a link in bio they could use to drive additional orders. 

We were also able to build up their Instagram reach (36.7K) and engagement (6,424 content interactions), as well as some of the highest performing Reels their page had seen. Their Reels content focused on creating an aspirational brand feel using a mix of user-generated content (UGC) and trending audios to showcase their take on a modern vegan lifestyle and healthy, delicious bowls.

The result was 769 website clicks and 35 links clicks for direct delivery from organic content alone. Their content continues to see high engagement and be shared widely amongst hungry Vancouverites.
